TITLE:                     LEAD TEACHER

SUPERVISED BY:          Site Manager 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

BA degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education and two years teaching experience or a CA Children’s Center Instructional Permit and/pr a CDA plus five years teaching experience. 

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Lead Teacher must be an appropriate role model for staff, parents and children. He/She is responsible for exhibiting good communication, problem solving and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive attitude. The Lead Teacher, as the lead of the teaching team, is responsible for the care and the development of twenty children. The Lead Teacher will plan and implement a curriculum with active participation of other team members, parents and the component staff to meet the Head Start Performance Standards. 

Environment 

-         Provides an environment for children with materials and equipment conducive to leaning and appropriate to the developmental levels of preschool children.

-         Ensures that the environment meets safety standards established by the program and is in compliance with state and federal regulations. 

-         Creates a clean, pleasant classroom where children feel comfortable and secure. 

Curriculum 

-         Creates and implement a quality curriculum that meets the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, health, and nutritional needs of each child. This shall be done in accordance to the National Head Start Performance Standards. 

-         Conducts developmental assessments and prepares individualized education plans specifying developmental goal and activities for each child, including children with disabilities.

-         Works with the Assistant Teacher to create daily open ended small groups for children which will encourage questioning, problem solving, language, creativity and concept forming in young children. 

-         Keeps portfolios and on going observation notes on each child. 

Outdoor Activities

-         Interacts and closely supervises children outdoors.

-         Able to bend and lift a child (up to 50 lbs.) when needed.

-         Able to manage children in outdoor activities.

Promote Social and Emotional Growth

-         Provides activities and guidance which helps each child know, accept and appreciate him/herself as an individual.

-         Provides opportunities for each child to express, understand and control his/her feelings.

-         Provides a positive daily routine and simple, consistent rules that are understood and accepted by all adults and children.

-         Provides opportunities for children to interact and cooperate with one another.

-         Models positive teacher/child interaction skills.

Family

-         Conducts at least two home visits each year with parents of children in assigned classroom.

-         Establishes mutual expectations with parents and staff for the experiences children will receive in the classroom.

 -         Meets on a daily basis with parent volunteers.

 -       Conducts two Parent-Teacher conferences to discuss the child’s development and plans goals and action    steps for home and school.

-         Be available for all parents on a formal and informal basis.

-         Participates in a curriculum discussion with parents at the monthly parent center meetings.

Staff

-         Participates in Case Conference Meetings with the Assistant Teacher and F/C Services Coordinator. Helps to facilitate information sharing, goal setting, and action plans for each child.

-         Attends Center meetings.

-         Participates in CCDC Consultation Meetings.

-         Participates in Head Start training and in teacher training coursed from accredited educational institutions.

-         Provides technical assistance and trainings to Assistant Teacher and Parent Volunteers on a daily basis.

-         Conducts daily team meeting with Assistant Teacher.

-         Maintains records for attendance, food reimbursement, parent participation and other in-kind contributions.

-         Reports inappropriate behavior of staff, parents and on-site consultants to the appropriate supervisor.

-         Performs other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.

TITLE:               ASSISTANT TEACHER 

SUPERVISED BY:  Lead Teacher 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

A High School Diploma or G. E. D., 1 year’s experience either paid or as a volunteer in an early childhood program, 12 ECE units and a willingness to pursue career development.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for the care and the development of twenty children. The Assistant Teacher will plan and implement a curriculum with the help and guidance of the Lead Teacher and parents to meet the Head Start Performance Standards.

TITLE:                             Site Manager

Supervised By:            Education/Disabilities Manager 

Description:
The site manager, as the lead of the Center, is expected to provide a high quality program and is responsible for the overall running of the entire Center. The Center will achieve high quality when the Site Manager provides professional support to the staff, coordinates center functions, and meets licensing requirements. The center will be licensed under the Site Manager and it is the responsibility of the Site Manager to make sure that all regulations for licensing are met and maintained. The Site Manager will have an understanding of head Start’s performance standards and see that the Center is meeting these standards. Additionally, when applicable, he or she will see that all state preschool requirements are met. The Site Manager will also perform all the responsibilities of Teacher see Job Description of Teacher.)

Qualifications:

-         Meeting requirements set for Teacher

-         Five years teaching experience

-         Two years teaching at Kai Ming head Start as a supervisor

-         Recommendation of Education Coordinator

-         Two adult supervision units or

-         Meeting requirements set for Teacher

-         Five years teaching with supervisory responsibilities

-         Two adult supervision units 

Professional Support:

  • Maintains updated knowledge of Early childhood Education
  • Performs as a team leader and develops team thinking skills that include reflective thinking and critical evaluation of the head Start Program
  • Intervenes with suggestions when co-workers are displaying practices that are not appropriate
  • Is a source of information and guidance to all teachers in the Center
  • Maintains an overall well being for all children in the Center paying specific attention to children and families with disabilities or special needs
  • Supervises the teaching staff and evaluates their job performance according to agency policies and procedures

 Coordination of Center:

·                    Schedules and conducts Center meeting which include:

      • Written agenda
      • Recorded minutes
      • Input from Center staff

·                    Responsible for the completion of inventory of the Center

·                    Coordination and ordering supplies and materials

·                    Establishes a filing system easily accessible to staff

·                    Assigns staff duties evenly and fairly and posts them on staff  bulletin board

·                    Establishes a monthly calendar for the Center

·                    Verifies time sheets, petty cash forms and consultant tracking forms

·                    Coordinates field trips and special Center events

·                    Responsible for covering of assigning staff to cover duties due to staff absences

·                    Responsible for repairs to be made in the Center; these requests will be in written format.

·                    Other duties for smooth daily operations of the Center

 Licensing:

·                    Ensures monthly fire and earthquake drills at each Center

·                    Maintains a safe environment throughout the Center

·                    Monitors staff’s CPR, First Aid and Health and Safety Certificates

·                    Updates Parent and Staff bulletin boards with current information

·                    Completes and oversees state preschool forms and documentation

·                    Makes sure the Center meets all local, state and federal regulations and laws

·                    Creates disaster plan and floor plan for the entire Center

TITLE:             Family/Community Services Coordinator

 Supervised by:   Family/Community Services Manager

 Requirements:

·         BA degree in Social Work or related field with experience in case work

·         Experience in working with low-income families and children

·         Knowledge of cultural needs of multi-ethnic groups

·         Bilingual in English/Chinese, Spanish, or Vietnamese required

·         Basic computer skills

 Job Summary:

·         Responsible for the recruitment of children, including those with special needs into the Head Start program

·         Conduct assessments, goal setting, follow-up and crisis intervention for families

·         Collaborate with community agencies to connect families with appropriate resources

·         Coordinate parent meetings and parent education activities in areas of social work

·         Work closely with all component specialists and parents in the development and implementation of an interdisciplinary team approach

·         Maintain detailed case documentation and health records, provide health and nutrition screenings and follow-ups on health issues as needed

·         Work with health and education staff to coordinate services for children and families

·         Participate in team discussions, center meetings, mental health consultations, case conferences, and in-service training programs
