Dear
Sir or Madam:
Established
in 1975, Kai Ming, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides
comprehensive Head Start services to low-income families in San Francisco’s
Chinatown; to qualify for our services families must be living under the
federal poverty line. Our mission is to
break the cycle of poverty, stabilize families and prepare the children for
both the social and academic challenges of the future. Our free services include: half-day
preschool classes (taught in Cantonese and English) and full-day care for
working parents, meals for the children, job counseling and English as a Second
Language classes for the adults as well as mental health and referral services
for those in crisis. We employ more
than 60 people, almost half of who began as recipients of our services. For a more complete understanding of our
organization, visit our website (www.kaiming.org).
Our
budget is balanced and carefully monitored to insure that over 90% of the
resources available directly offset the cost of the services we provide to some
of our city’s poorest families. This
leaves little for other things.
We
would like to acknowledge the volunteers who have made it possible for us to
serve children with special needs and those employees who have distinguish
themselves by providing service far beyond their job requirements and for a low
hourly wage that does not reflect the value of their work.
We
would appreciate any donation you could make (items, tickets, passes or gift
certificates) to those we are collecting to create a variety of award packages
to give away with our thanks. We will
acknowledge your generosity when presenting the awards and in our newsletters
to the community. Our accountant can
also provide you with any tax documentation you require.
You
can contact me by calling at the number listed below or by email
(admin@kaiming.org). Items can be sent
to my attention (c/o Kai Ming Head Start, 950 Powell, SF CA 94108-2014) or we
can arrange to collect them from you.
Kai
Ming is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your donation is
tax-deductible.
Our nonprofit number is 51-0137847.
Thank
you for your consideration. Your
kindness will be long remembered.
