The holiday season welcomes a time of reflection and gratitude. Expressing thanks goes a long way to show appreciation and nurture relationships. Michelle Obama once said, “We learned about gratitude and humility – that so many people had a hand in our success, from the teachers who inspired us to the janitors who kept our school clean, and we were taught to value everyone’s contribution and treat everyone with respect.” We are thankful to the organizations who so generously provide gifts to our children and families, specifically during the winter season. These acts of generosity make a difference in a child’s life and we continue to find creative ways for expressing gratitude.

In December, both classrooms from Kai Ming Head Start North Beach Center went on a field trip to meet the group of lawyers that sponsored their holiday gifts. When we arrived at the offices of Fenwick and West, we were again amazed by their generosity in welcoming us with colorful cookies and beverages to keep us warm. A large group of lawyers and paralegals were gathered and they cheered on our young carolers who were led by 5 year old Selina who greeted the audience by saying, “Good Morning everybody, thank you for having us!” Children sang a variety of holiday songs, and to the delight of their sponsors, also handed out hand-painted wooden ornaments. We were all in agreement that this was a wonderful get together, and the staff from Fenwick and West expressed that they would love to repeat this again next year. For this coming season, each of our centers is already planning creative ways to give back to our community and show our gratitude. We really appreciate all of our community partners!
