Kai Ming's Philosophy of Parent Engagement

Kai Ming’s family engagement philosophy is rooted in the understanding that families are the most important influence and role model for their children, and when educators and families partner together children will be most successful. This is demonstrated by:

· Supporting staff to embrace their relationship with families as an inherent component of their work with children

· Engaging family members to promote children’s school readiness and future success, developing a strong partnership for learning at home and at school

· Supporting parents to increase efficacy and become self-sufficient and multi-culturally competent in order to become effective advocates for young children

· Encouraging parents to continue learning and become a role model as a life-long learner for their children

· Promoting family leadership through engaging families in the classroom, and participating in a collaborative process of program decision-making and governance
