Kai Ming is a quality program offering prenatal support, infant and toddler childcare, preschool and supportive services at low or no cost for eligible families in San Francisco.

Early learning, health and family well-being make a difference in how far children will go to reach their full potential. At Kai Ming, we help provide early childhood education and care that sets your child up for success. Upon enrollment, your family will have access to comprehensive services at low or no cost to you.

Preschool (3-5 years) Culturally relevant, family-centric and child-interest specific, curriculum that supports dual language learners dual language curriculum prepares children for kindergarten and provides a springboard for life-long learning. Teacher-child-ratio between 1:5 to 1:8.

Infant/Toddler Care (3-36 months) Early learning: social-emotional, language, cognition, and physical development foundations of early learning are central to creating the nurturing environment at our centers. Teacher-child ratio 1:3 for infants and 1:4 for toddlers.

Prenatal and Home-Based Care Weekly home visits, monthly center-based socialization plus comprehensive health, and wellness services give parents and children a solid start.

Services

We provide low-income families a free culturally relevant program from the prenatal period through preschool to meet children’s emotional, social, health, nutritional, and educational needs. Our comprehensive services include:

  • A multicultural preschool program featuring qualified teachers
  • Childcare and early childhood education for infants and toddlers
  • Healthy nutritious meals for children at school
  • Child health screenings and referral services
  • Parent education
  • Family support services
  • Services to children with special needs through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) which is provided by San Francisco Unified School District

History

Kai Ming, Inc. is a non-profit agency established in 1975, and a recognized Head Start grantee since 2014. Head Start is a federal program developed in 1965 to help break the cycle of poverty by providing young children of low-income families a free comprehensive program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, and educational needs.

With over 40 years of working with quality teachers, resource providers, and families, we have developed a deep understanding of the nurturing environment and supportive services that enable children to reach their full potential. Our partnerships with community, state and federal programs address the multifaceted needs of our families at low or no cost to them.

Program goals and objectives

Kai Ming’s 5-year Program Goals and Objectives are:

  • Goal 1: Promote staff’s understanding and implementation of the Early Learning Outcome Framework (ELOF) and the Parent, Family and Community Engagement (PFCE) Framework.
  • Goal 2: Promote the teaching team’s efficacy in advancing Project Approach practices to create a holistic learning experience for children and families.
  • Goal 3: Enhance the implemented curriculum to not only be culturally sensitive but also inclusive.
  • Goal 4: Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of direct support and follow-up for children’s health, nutrition, mental health, and developmental delay concerns.

Eligibility

We receive funding from Head Start, the California Department of Education, and San Francisco Office of Early Care Education to support the development of young children and their families. There are multiple factors that decide your eligibility. Please refer to our Enrollment section for more details about how to enroll your child.
